[Her openness about these things is both strange and telling. He can't imagine being so casual about things that have happened to him, the idea of laying out his private moments to someone else almost without provocation is unthinkable. But it also paints a picture of how much she trusts him, backing up her previous claims that they were friends before this.

He doesn't want to ask about Terrigenesis. Whatever trust she held in the Barnes she had known, he is not that man and it feels wrong to exploit it just because they share a face. So he changes direction on the questions a little, making it less personal.]

[It's definitely weird for her, opening up about all of this to someone. Usually the moment found out who she was, whether it be 'Quake' as the media likes to call her, or that she's Inhuman, they paint her as a bad guy.

So the fact that someone, much less Bucky, is interested in her history was refreshing.]

More than there used to be. A lot of us went into hiding.

[There could be thousands of Inhumans running around, or only a dozen. He wants to know, just in case he manages to get back home, so that he can assess how much of a possible threat they might be and how likely he is to encounter them.]

[Well, now it's her turn to be a little cagey. Even though it's very likely he'd ever remember this conversation should he end up back home.]

[She tries to say it as casually as possible, but given her run ins with the Watchdogs back home? Yeah, she's going to protect her people.]

[The look he shoots her is unreadable, but he doesn't push it. Useful to know that there are still clear lines she won't cross, even with someone she apparently had a close relationship with.]

As far as I’m aware? No. I’m the only one.

[She now knows that if/whenever she does go back, it will be like no time has passed. It still doesn’t help when she feels like she’s failing her people. She should be out there, protecting them.]

I guess an ancient alien race experimenting on humans isn’t the weirdest thing you’ve heard either?

No.

[Though it being aliens does ratchet it up a few notches. A part of him still can't even believe aliens are real, even with the Chitauri and Thor. It makes the small part of him that's Bucky, the one that used to buy dime store science fiction books, very excited.]

Hell, we're trapped in a damn dream city. That's weird.

[Daisy chuckles when he makes a very good point.]

Yeah, I guess that's pretty weird.

[It hits her, as they walk through the town, that this is the first time in months that she's talked to Bucky.

Except he's not her Bucky. She can't imagine them ever getting to that point, and maybe it's better that they don't. She doesn't deserve him. He deserves way better than someone like her.]

How have you been handling all of this?

[Things were almost at an easier point between them, so of course that question ruins everything and has the wariness returning tenfold. Because he knows that by the metric of literally anyone except Steve, he has not been handling this well.]

[There's no hiding her disappointment when he completely shuts her out again. Just when things were going okay, she says something to scare him off, again.

The screams would be hard to miss, even if they're talking, but she doesn't tell him that.]

[At least she doesn't try and push it, doesn't try and stop him from going.

His mouth is a hard line as he gives a fairly noncommittal shrug and turns to go.]
