[Manabu blinks, glancing over his shoulder.

after a beat:] Auh...mm. Okay. [he gets up, dusting off his knees.

he nods, eyes flickering from the cards to James.] Thanks for sticking around as much as you did, though.

Sure, it was-- nice.

[Not a word he's used to describe a whole lot of his days recently, so he appreciates it. He digs the first thing he can find out of the cupboards, just some bread, and sets it on a plate for Manabu at the table.]

[boy.........it's a good thing Manabu's sass has its limits. he blinks at the plate, then slowly scans around the kitchen's countertops.]

...Toast it is, then. [blink. nodding again, looking to James:] I can handle it. Go see your friend.

[the other one, anyway.]

Steve isn't--

[He cuts himself off before he finishes that, shaking his head. It's complicated, and it really isn't the time or place to get into it, so he just takes a step towards the door.]

I'm trusting you to stay home today.

[siriusly]

[would he even notice if he didn't?

in any case, he holds up his hands a bit in a faint gesture of surrender.]

[Bucky gives him once last searching look, as if trying to tell if that's a lie, before turning silently to head for the door.]
