You're not answering my question.

[She's not doing anything without an explanation. She knows that he doesn't trust himself, so she's unsure whether or not she can trust him. The fact that Steve had blind faith when it came to Sgt Barnes didn't mean she had to, herself. And if something is happening, she wants to know what.]

I don't need someone. I - I didn't contact you because I need help. It was courtesy.

[There's a part of her, through the grief, that is coming alive. An angry part. Yet another man trying to tell her what to do, and trying to push his own agenda on her.]

[Peggy lets out a groan of frustration, not even trying to hide her feelings at this point.]

My God, you're so frustrating. What do you think answering a simple question really will do? A question that will not reveal where you are or who you're with, too?

[She promised herself she wouldn't break down in front of Sgt Barnes. She'd be strong, and she'd be good, just like Steve would want her to be. She'd be supportive. But James is simply so infuriating. Right now, she can't stand it.]

You say you're sending someone to me, like you care, but you're avoiding talking to me at all costs, just like you've avoided talking to Steve at all costs, too. You probably think you keeping yourself away is the right thing to do, but it's selfish. It tore Steve apart.

[A part of Peggy, feeling cruel, almost says no wonder he got caught by an anomaly twice in a row when you were all he could think about, but she bites her lip before the words come out; it's not because she's broken inside that she has to become someone she'd despise.

What she just told him was cruel enough.]
