[ Last week, he might have said to look for the S, because that means his family. After what Kara said about her aunt and uncle, he's beginning to doubt family would be good news.

Clark sighs quietly. Bucky can patch it up with Kara. Beyond that, he doesn't know.

He can see all the muscles on Bucky's face moving from one expression to the other. ]

You were honestly going to fight another Kryptonian to protect me? And you say I'm the punk.

[ It's the "why are you like this" someone would say to their friend in affectionate exasperation. ]

[advanced]

[He shifts very slightly in discomfort, but he doesn't shy away from the truth.]

I don't have many friends, I'm not going to lose any of the ones I have.

[Even if that means fighting useless battles that he can't win.]

[signifies]

[ He thought so.

Clark speaks gently. ]

I would've handled it. You know I've dealt with them before.

[advanced]

[A frown draws his brows together.]

Like you let me handle my stuff?

[signifies]

I won't stop you from trying to help. [ It means a lot to Clark that Bucky tries. ] But... I wonder if it's because you think I'm naive.

[advanced]

You are naive.

[No apologies for that, he doesn't even try and hide it.]

[signifies]

[ It stings. ]

I admit I'm inexperienced. [ The Kents taught him there's no shame in making mistakes or admitting when he's wrong. Clark knows he hasn't got everything "figured out". He's a long way from being Dick's Superman. ] That's not the same.

[advanced]

I know, but you're still naive.

[He shrugs, it's not an insult.]

Like Steve, he's naive too, even though he's got a lot of experience.

[signifies]

[ He understands then; it's something to do with Bucky himself.

Clark shakes his head. He doesn't want to argue, so he changes the subject. ]

Made up your mind about gardening?

[advanced]

[He raises both eyebrows again, but he's not going to push it. He will never not believe that Clark is naive, however.]

I'll think about it.

[Probably not.]

Can you deliver something for me?

[signifies]

Sure. What is it?

[advanced]

[He reaches into the back of his jacket and pulls out a high spec hand gun, and then a box of ammunition.]

They're for Ellie.

[He knows Clark knows Ellie.]

[signifies]

[ Clark stares at him. ]

Do you... want me to say they're from me?

[advanced]

Sure, you could try, but I don't think she'd believe you were giving her a gun. You can tell her they're from James.

[Yes, his real name, what of it?]

[signifies]

She wouldn't. [ Clark is an open book to Ellie. He frowns, because if Ellie knows his real name, Clark doesn't see why Bucky needs a middleman. ] Sure, I'll get them to her.

[advanced]

Thanks.

[He can see the question on Clark's face, even if he doesn't ask.]

She has a housemate, I don't want to go to her apartment.

[signifies]

Okay. [ Clark knows he's one of Taako's exceptions. He doesn't press the issue. ] I'll do it.

[advanced]

Thanks.

[His lips quirk up slightly.]

You don't have to hang around if you have things to do.

[He's not saying that Clark isn't welcome to, Bucky's planning on going to do some training and he doesn't mind company, but he doesn't need Clark there out of politeness if the man has places to be and people to see.]

[signifies]

I'd like to spend time with you when it doesn't involve this.

[ What he means is he'd like to do something normal. Relative to both of them.

Like how friends do. ]

[advanced]

[He nods, thinking for a moment.]

I'm going training now, or I'm going to try and learn how to bake a pie soon. Your choice.

[signifies]

[ Clark nods as he thinks. ]

I've been trying to improve my hand-to-hand. Maybe I can learn something from you.

[advanced]

You mean for those fights when you're not invulnerable?

[He smiles slightly as he turns to keep walking, leading Clark towards the wooded area outside the main city.]

[signifies]

[ Clark unsuccessfully suppresses a smile. He follows Bucky. ]

Being invulnerable and knowing how to fight aren't the same. Zod took advantage of me. He's not the only thing out there that'll want to hurt Earth.

[advanced]

So there are things out there that can hurt you?

[It's a careful question, he knows Clark can be a bit closed off when discussing his alien physiology and past. Not that he's one to talk.]

[signifies]

[ He is. Clark also knows now he can trust Bucky. ]

Yes, although I wouldn't know about them. I'm also sure the United States government, among others, is trying to find a weapon that can counter me.
